Free Instructions: Crystal Web Necklace

Follow our free step by step instructions, and learn how to make your own stylish Crystal Web Necklace. We chose a dramatic dark colour way, ideal for spooky season and party season! Or you can have fun choosing any colour way you like! We have over 70 different colours of size 11/0 seed beads to browse, and over 30 different colours of 3mm crystals. This project uses the bead weaving technique - netting, and is a project that's perfect for beginners, if you're new to bead weaving and would like to learn more, read our 'introduction to bead weaving' blog post, where you can discover tips and tricks to help you on your bead weaving journey. We used 3mm crystal bicones beads because we LOVE a sparkle! But you could always substitute them for size 8/0 seed beads instead. 

Materials Needed to make a 19" collar (  16" beaded section. 3"  trigger and extension )

3 x 5g Size 11/0 Preciosa Silver Lined Seed Beads - Black diamond ( S1119 )

9 x packs of 20 3mm Preciosa Crystal Bicones - Jet ( CPB323980-20 ) ( or your could use Size 8/0 Seed beads )

Beading Thread - ( we used KO Thread )

An extension chain, trigger set ( EXCH5SP )

2 x 5mm jump rings ( JR5SP )

Tools Required 

Size 15 Beading Needle ( ND15 )

A sharp pair of scissors ( SCIMX )

A beading mat ( BMT2 )

Chain nosed pliers 

Instructions

Legend

A -  3mm crystal bicones B - Size 11/0 seed bead 

TIP: do not pull the tension of your netted stitches tightly, otherwise it won't drape correctly and will be too stiff.

Take a comfortable length of beading thread, thread 1A, 3B, 1A, 4B ( photo 1 )

Loop around and pass back through the second A you picked up in the previous step ( photo 2 )

Pick up 4Bs, 1A, 3Bs ( photo3 )

Pass down the first A you picked up in step 1 ( photo 4 )

Pick up 3Bs, 1A, 1B, loop around, miss out the last B, and pass up through the A you just picked up ( photo 5 )

Pick up 3B, 1A, 3B ( photo 6 )

Pass through the A you picked up in step 3 ( photo 7 )

Pick up 4B, 1A, 3B  ( photo 8 )

Pass back through the A you picked us in step 6 ( photo 9 )

Repeat steps 5 - 9, working along to make your netted beadwork longer and longer....( photo 10 )

Once your beadwork in the required length - minus the 15mm ( allowing for the length of the trigger clasps ). Finish on a step 9

Pick up 4B, 1A, 6 ( photo 11 )

Loop around and pass back through the A you picked up in the previous step, ( photo 12 )

Pick up 3B and pass through the A from two steps previous ( photo 13)

Pass around the thread paths of this end section to reach your 6B loop again, and pass around the loop to strengthen. 

Repeat for the tail at the other end of your necklace.

Weave in and secure your thread and trim

The next step in to strengthen your necklace. Take a comfortable length of stretched beading thread, start at the very end of your beadwork and pass through the top horizontal thread path to the end ( photo 14 ) Leave a 15cm tail where you started. Do not pull your tension too tight, otherwise your necklace will not drape nicely. Pass around the end 6B loop, pass through end section of your bead work, to strengthen, weave in and secure your thread, and trim. Take your tail, pass through the end 6B loop, pass through the end thread paths, weave in and secure your thread and trim.

Using chain nosed pliers, open up a jump ring, loop it onto the end 6B beaded loop, and your extension clasp. Close the jump ring ( photo 15a ) Repeat at the other end, with the trigger clasp ( photo 15b )

You're finished!
