Free Instructions: Mellow Anklet

Follow our free step by step instructions and make your own beaded anklet, the perfect accessory for a sparking summer! Our 3mm tonal bead strings are divine! We wanted to create a piece that showcases the beautiful graduation of colour through the string. We named our anklet 'Mellow' , as we felt this reflects the soft tonal colour changes of the beads.

This project is deal for beginners to bead weaving, and is a great introductions to other netting techniques. The beaded anklet we made is 9.5" without the extension chain, and 11.5" with the extension chain. To make a 9.5" anklet we used exactly a whole bead string, if you wish to make a longer anklet, you may wish to pick up two strings. Happy beading!

Materials used for a 9.5" anklet

1 string of crystal faceted 3mm round beads - bright rainbow ( GLVZBR )

5g size 8/0 Preciosa silver lined silver seed beads ( S831 )

Beading thread, we used white

5mm jump rings x2 ( JR5SP )

extension chain & tigger set ( EXCH5SP-2 )

Tools Required

Size 10 beading needle ( ND10 )

A sharp pair of scissors

A beading mat - not essential but very handy! ( BMT-2 )

Chain nosed pliers

Instructions:

Important tip! If you wish to keep the graduated colour sequence of the beads, be super super careful when you cut the end of the string when you are ready to start beading. Once the sequence of the beads gets muddled, it will be very hard to arrange them back! We used a bead bat, to avoid beads rolling and getting muddled up. We kept all the beads on their original string, and took ten beads off at a time to work with. This worked for us, but use the tricks that work for you of course!

N.B we used a different colour seed beads a beading thread, as it's easier to photograph and to see!

1. Take a comfortable length of beading thread (I find about 80cm is comfortable for me) thread 4 seed beads. Slide along so you have a 30cm tail. Loop your needle around and pass through again the first seed bead you picked up to create little circle of 4 beads ( photo 1 )

2. Thread ten 3mm beads, we started from the bright pink end ( photo 2 )

3. Repeat Steps 1 & 2 six times

4. Repeat step 1

5. Pass through the next 3 seed beads, following the thread path down and around ( photo 3 )

6. Pick up thirteen 3mm beads, pass through the bottom seed bead of the next seed bead circle along ( photo 4 ) you are now working back the way you came

7. Repeat this step until your reach the end of your anklet ( photo 5 )

8. Pass pack through all the threads path again to strengthen, it's advisable to pass around the two end seed beads circles more then once, to ensure they are nice and strong

9. Weave in and secure your threads

10. Using chain nosed pliers, open up a jump ring, loop through on of your seed bead end circles, and through the trigger clasp ( Photo 6 )
